Evaluation Method
How was this guide prepared?
The cover uses actual product photos of four Thinktool models verified by the Otobiltek catalog; device bodies and screens are not redrawn.
The THINKCAR official V5 product catalog, Master user manual, software download center, and vehicle coverage tool were reviewed for model classes. Prices are not written in fixed text.
- Matching the model to the service job
- Differentiating between standard package and optional modules
- Calculating the total cost of the device, VCI, license, and delivery contents
When a new model, package, software duration, or live purchase information changes, the relevant class and connections are re-checked.
Decision guide
Why can't Thinktool prices be accurately compared in a single list?
Under the same brand, there are compact code readers, service tablets, heavy-duty devices, EV diagnostic products, TPMS programmers, and accessories that connect to the main device. Price differences arise not only from hardware power but also from VCI, cables, software packages, the initial update period, modules, and after-sales service, which also affect the total cost. Therefore, when comparing the price of the Reader 7 with the Expert 399 or Master CV, the difference in function must be clearly stated. The current amount including VAT should be visible in the purchasing area of each product.
Differentiate between the physical device and the digital license.
Differentiate between the standard package and optional modules.
Read passenger, heavy-duty, and EV software as separate line items.
Decision guide
Which user is the Reader 7, Thinktool Lite, and Lite 2 intended for?
The Reader 7, due to the seven-system limit in the official catalog, is intended for quick preliminary checks and selected maintenance needs; it should not be presented as a full-system and active test device. The older Thinktool Lite is a compact model with a smaller screen and printer. The Lite 2, however, is considered for services expecting ThinkDiag Mini 2 VCI, CAN FD, DoIP, full system scanning, and active tests. For these three models, the number of systems to be scanned, the need for physical commands, the VCI configuration, and next-generation vehicle protocols should be checked before screen size.
Decision guide
How is the decision made between Master, Master 2, and Master X2?
Although the Master family shares a similar name, their VCI, protocols, hardware, and package structures differ. The Master is for modular service use; the Master 2 is for TVCI and new protocol needs; the Master X2 is considered for ThinkLink connectivity, DoIP, CAN FD, and supported remote diagnostic workflows. The term 'online programming' does not imply unlimited authority across all brands and control units. OEM accounts, secure access, region, license, and power supply conditions must be verified in writing before quoting.
Specify the VCI model by its full name.
Match CAN FD and DoIP information with your vehicle fleet.
Inquire separately about the OEM account and security requirements for programming.

How are Expert 191, 195, 391, 394 AI, and 399 differentiated?
In the Expert series, model number size alone is not the decision criterion. Screen, memory, battery, ThinkLink or ThinkLink Pro type, supported protocols, and passenger, commercial vehicle, or EV software packages are considered together. The Expert 191 and 195 are more compact professional tablet options; the 391, 394 AI, and 399 are offered with larger bodies and different packages. In the Expert 399 quote, ThinkLink Pro, charging stand, measurement accessories, and active software groups must each be checked.
Decision guide
What does the Thinktool Master CV offer for heavy-duty vehicles?
The Master CV is a tablet-centric package used for 12/24 V commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, tractors, and construction machinery service. It is not the same product as a passenger vehicle device with just an added cable. The HML VCI, connector set, commercial vehicle software, and supported brand coverage must be part of the quote. Engine, transmission, ABS, retarder, body, and special function needs in the vehicles the workshop services must be checked individually; the number of brands alone is not proof of purchase.
Decision guide
When should the CE EVD be considered for electric vehicle service?
The Thinktool CE EVD is intended for electric vehicle systems and battery pack diagnostic needs. EV work is not limited to reading fault codes; high-voltage safety, battery status, insulation, temperature, and manufacturer procedures must be considered together. A decision should not be made solely based on the phrase 'supports electric vehicles' without checking the device's EV software period, delivered connections, and the coverage of brands/models to be worked on. The workshop's personal protective equipment and safe working procedures are separate mandatory requirements from the device.
Decision guide
Why do Thinkcar TPMS product prices differ?
The ThinkTPMS S1 is a physical replacement sensor; the T-Wand 200 and G1 are accessories that work with a compatible main device or app. The T100 is a standalone TPMS device with a screen, while the T-Wand 900 is a handheld device that combines TPMS service with vehicle diagnostic tasks. Sensor activation, programming, in-vehicle relearn, and fault diagnosis are not the same tasks. When comparing prices, the number of sensors, compatible sensor family, OBD connection, main device requirement, and software conditions must be stated separately.
Decision guide
ThinkPrinter, Scope Box, Think Easy, and ES401 are not main devices
The ThinkPrinter prints reports, the Scope Box displays electrical signals, the Think Easy adds 12 V battery and starting/charging tests, and the ES401 is an automotive endoscope for viewing hard-to-reach areas. These products do not replace a diagnostic tablet. Some require a compatible Thinktool main device and the relevant software menu. Accessory prices should not be compared solely based on the quote without specifying the main device model, connection method, standard box contents, and any required additional parts.
Decision guide
What difference do CAN FD, DoIP, J2534, and online programming make?
CAN FD and DoIP relate to the vehicle's communication infrastructure; listing these protocols does not mean all service functions will be enabled. J2534 can enable reprogramming communication between a compatible VCI and a computer; however, an OEM subscription, files, authorization, and a stable power supply are also required. Online programming or coding support depends on brand, model, year, control unit, region, and account conditions. When evaluating price differences, paying for a protocol that will not be used is as detrimental to service capability as omitting a necessary protocol.
Decision guide
How are the software period and total cost of ownership calculated?
The device cost may include the initial software period, subsequent renewals, separate brand or vehicle group packages, SGW/OEM accounts, optional modules, and technical support. The free period in the manufacturer's catalog does not prove the remaining license of a second-hand device; the serial number and license screen must be viewed. The total cost is calculated by adding the device price, required modules, renewal plan, and the risk of service interruption. The Master one-year renewal guide should be used separately for update pricing.
Decision guide
Pre-purchase written quote checklist
The quote must include the full product name, tablet and VCI model, serial number or verification method, box contents, software groups, start and end dates, warranty channel, and delivery method. Vehicles and operations frequently encountered in the service's last six months of work orders should be selected and checked in the official coverage tool. Live pricing, stock, and installment information are read from the product page; general statements in marketplace titles are not used as proof of technical coverage.
- Full model and VCI name
- Cable, adapter, and module list
- Distinction between passenger, CV, EV, and TPMS software
- Update start and end dates
- Vehicle and operation-based coverage results
- Warranty and support channel
Frequently Asked Questions
