Difference between ECU programming, coding, and configuration
Configuration can change a supported setting of a feature already present in the vehicle; coding may require matching a control unit to the vehicle's hardware. ECU read-write, on the other hand, is a different and riskier operation that accesses the control unit's memory content. The product scope should only be evaluated for the operation it explicitly supports based on these terms.

Separate on-vehicle and benchtop connections
The operation performed via the OBD socket is not the same as bench or boot connection to a removed control unit. Cable, adapter, power supply, and software requirements may vary. Before purchasing a device, the module to be operated on and the connection method must be documented in the product documentation.
- OBD Connection
- Bench or boot connection
- Adapter and power supply

Plan data and power security during programming
Interruption of connection or supply voltage during a write operation can render the control unit inoperable. Before the operation, vehicle and module identity, backup option, stable power supply, recovery method, and technical support scope must be verified.
