When is a passenger car cable set needed?
In older generation passenger cars, instead of the standard 16-pin OBD2 connection, BMW 20-pin, Mercedes 38-pin, Opel 10-pin, Fiat 3-pin, Audi 2+2 pin, or PSA sockets may be encountered. A passenger car OBD cable set is used to match the physical socket in these vehicles with a device that has a standard OBD2 input; it does not increase the device's software scope or access to every control unit in the vehicle on its own.
- Old type brand sockets
- OBD2 conversion
- 12V power cable

What does an OBD2 cable do?
An OBD2 cable establishes a physical connection between the diagnostic socket in the vehicle and the fault diagnostic device or VCI. An extension cable can facilitate access; a conversion cable can match different socket layouts. Every physically connected cable does not guarantee that the device used will communicate with all systems.

- Extension need
- Socket conversion
- Device communication

How to choose a 15 cm and 30 cm OBD cable?
A short cable takes up less space in confined areas; a longer cable can facilitate device positioning. When making a selection, the location of the socket inside the vehicle, the weight of the VCI, the likelihood of cable strain, and the service working arrangement should be considered.
- Socket location
- VCI placement
- Cable strain
- Service workspace

SGW bypass cable is not a standard OBD cable
An SGW bypass cable is intended for physical access in specific vehicle and security gateway configurations. It does not replace a standard extension cable and does not provide software authorization on its own. The vehicle, connection point, diagnostic device, and intended operation must be verified with the scope on the product page.
